Sustainable Cities Summer School 2026
Applied urban innovation & best practices from Amsterdam & Rotterdam
 
Based in Amsterdam, the Sustainable Cities Summer School will take place 26 – 30 August 2026 showcasing the best of Dutch urban development and innovation with a strong emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning. Through guided study tours and expert lectures, participants explore the city as a living laboratory for sustainable, smart and inclusive urban development. In addition to Amsterdam, participants will also visit Rotterdam — rapidly transforming into one of Europe’s most innovative cities.

Accommodation
The program is based at Camping Zeeburg in Amsterdam, a unique beachside location with a relaxed, international atmosphere. Located ~25min by tram from Amsterdam Central Station and 15min by bike from city center, it offers direct and convenient access to many of Amsterdam’s most significant urban transformation areas including Sluisbuurt, IJburg/Centrumeiland and Amsterdam North.
 
Participants can choose to book one of the following accommodation options, all with shared bathroom facilities (costs per 4 nights, optional): 
– Twin room (per person): €198
– Single room (per room): €280
– Private double room (1–2 persons): €590     
 
Participants can also arrange their own accommodation, or arrange their own tent / campsite at Zeeburg Camping.
 
Practical Information
– This is not a luxury program. The Summer School emphasizes openness, sustainability and experiential learning, with active engagement.
– Participants should be comfortable with daily cycling (approximately 8–10 km per day). Some program activities will involve walking and public transport.
– Accommodation is provided in eco-cabins with shared bathroom facilities (optional). Participants can choose to bring their own tent.
– Alternatively, participants may arrange their own accommodation independently.
– Minimum number of participants: 10 (required for the program to run)
– Maximum group size: 18 participants (to ensure a safe, engaging and high-quality learning experience)
