A few years ago Cityplot opened their Educational Garden in the Volkstuinpark Sloterdijkermeer between Westerpark and the Amsterdam Sloterdijk train station.

Cityplot worked with many other groups and experts to build special areas into the garden. Among the experts are:

I can change the world with my two hands – local urban farm
Edwin Flores of Casa Foresta – edible mushrooms
Lynn Shore of Urban Herbology – herbs and wild plants

The educational garden is organic and incorporates bio-dynamic and permaculture principles. Beds are filled with herbs, heritage fruits and vegetables, edible flowers, vegetable dye plants, and wild plants. Mushrooms will also be grown as well as a special children’s garden area and a greenhouse.

Cityplot will holds workshops and demonstrations in their garden. Past workshops have included all kinds of interesting subjects related to city gardening like worm composting, seed saving, edible flowers, growing tropical plants indoors, balcony gardening and more! Be sure to check their website and Facebook page for upcoming events!

Every Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 volunteers can help in the garden with weeding, planting, digging and other tasks. So come by and help out!
